Marathoners by nation

At the Melbourne 1956, the Roma 1956 and the Tokyo 1964 Olympics, the "Unified Team of Germany" competed as a united team of athletes from the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany). In 1956 the team also included athletes from a third Olympic body, the Saarland Olympic Committee, which joined the German National Olympic Committee in February 1957. The German Democratic Republic ceased to exist after 1989 and joined the Federal Republic of Germany in the process of German reunification in 1990.
